HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team practiced in shoulder pads for the first time during spring practice Friday afternoon at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
"We had some guys who were saving themselves," said head coach Larry Fedora. "I don't think we were flying around the way we needed to. We had some guys who did some good things. But, overall, as an entire team, it wasn't like it has been the last two days."
Despite that, Fedora talked about moving some guys into new positions.
"We have what we call our `Spur Position,'" said Fedora. "Some of our safeties have moved into that, which is a nickel type position for some of those safeties. Right now, we haven't locked down who is going into that position. So, a lot of people are working. Dasman McCullum is working at the bandit position, as is Tim Green. He's doing some good things also. That's really the only two changes. Everyone else is in their normal spot."
The Golden Eagles return to practice tomorrow morning.
