Softball Holds Annual Meet The Team Dinner

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Staff, parents, players, local community supporters and boosters came out for the softball's annual "Meet the Team" dinner on the campus in the Thad Cochran Center, Feb. 5, in anticipation of the opening 2011 season.
Parents, fans and boosters were able to meet and greet the team and have dinner, prior to the opening weekend of the 2011 season.
Former Golden Eagle softball player, Lana Vaughn, served as the emcee and special guests included Athletics Director Richard Giannini and his wife, Gail, Senior Associate AD Diane Stark, Senior Associate AD General Jeff Hammond and his wife, Diane, Associate AD/Executive Director of Eagle Club Dick Vogel and his wife, Debbie, and Executive secretary of athletic director Lynn McLelland and her husband, Doug.
On the night, Coach Howard Dobson, who is beginning his fourth season, had a recap of the fall season including workouts and the completion of the stadium. However, before the night was over, Dobson also shared his thoughts and expectations for the upcoming season and a "wish list". Fans and boosters had a chance to win door prizes.
During the evening, each class was introduced and had an opportunity for a question and answer session. Each player was required to answer at least one question. The Lady Eagles open the 2011 season when they host the Southern Miss Mizuno Classic, Feb. 12-13, at the Southern Miss Softball Complex. The Classic includes Central Arkansas and Kennesaw State. The format will be round robin with each team playing each other twice. Game times are 12, 2:30 and 5 p.m., on Saturday and 11 a.m., 1:30 and 4 p.m., on Sunday.
