Softball Team Hosts South Alabama

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss softball team will conclude a five-game homestand when the Golden Eagles host South Alabama Wednesday evening at 5 p.m., at the USM Softball Complex.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 2-2 weekend in the Southern Miss Mizuno Classic with two wins over Central Arkansas and two losses to Kennesaw State. Six Eagles owns a batting average over .300. Britney Dinelt and Christina Roosmalen pace the Eagles with a .444 average, while Michelle Takeda next at .385, Jill Mathis has a .333 average and Chanell Thurman .300. The Golden Eagles have tallied eight doubles, a triple and home run while collecting 19 RBI. Ten different players have at least one hit with six players with at least one extra base hit.
The Golden Eagle pitching staff has a 3.37 ERA to start the season. Sophomore Beth Dietrich is 1-1 after pitching 10.0 innings and has a 2.80 ERA with seven strikeouts. Courtney Ramos is 1-1 with a with an ERA of 3.23 in 8.2 innings of work.
South Alabama is 4-1 after competing in the Hibbett/Easton Softball Classic over the weekend. The Jaguars have eight players batting over .300, led by Christin Crocker who is sporting a .611 average with four home run. As a team, South Alabama have hit 17 long balls and own a .368 team batting average. Morgan Druhan leads the USA pitching staff with a 2-0 record and a 1.42 ERA in 12.2 innings of work with 25 strikeouts. Hannah Campbell is 1-1 with a 3.29 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 13.2 innings pitched.
Following the South Alabama game, the Golden Eagles will travel to Auburn, Ala., for the Tiger Invitational. Southern Miss opens with Campbell at 10 a.m., followed by Auburn at 12:30 p.m., on Friday. The Eagles will face Western Carolina at 5:30 p.m., on Saturday and conclude with McNeese State on Sunday at 9 a.m.
