HATTIESBURG, Miss. - With the Southern Miss football team attempting to capture its first Conference USA East Division title in five seasons, the Department of Athletics is urging Golden Eagle fans to head to Birmingham, Ala., for Thursday night's game against UAB.
The No. 20 Golden Eagles (BCS rankings) have won eight straight games to post a 9-1 overall record in 2011 and hold a two-game lead in the East Division standings with two games to play. A victory over the Blazers at Legion Field would give the program its second divisional title. Southern Miss has four league crowns, coming in 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2003.
The Pride of Mississippi pep band is also going to help support the team in its efforts at UAB, although it was not a scheduled appearance for the group. Donations are being accepted to help the band get to Birmingham on Thursday. If you would like to help, fans can do so by credit card by calling 601-266-5299 or by mailing a check to the USM Athletic Foundation/ Band Bus to: Eagle Bus Campaign. Box 15458, Hattiesburg, MS 39404.
Tickets for Thursday's game can be purchased through the Southern Miss Ticket Office by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425), or on the internet at SouthernMiss.com or by visiting the Pat Ferlise Center (corner of West 4th and Golden Eagle Blvd.) weekdays from 8 a.m., until 5 p.m.
