Kentucky Guard Darnell Dodson Transfers to Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Former Kentucky standout Darnell Dodson has transferred to Southern Miss, head coach Larry Eustachy announced Friday afternoon. Dodson will have to sit out the spring and fall semesters due to the NCAA's transfer rules, but will be allowed to practice.
Last year at Kentucky, Dodson played in 35 games, starting seven. He averaged 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 rebounds. He also connected on 76.0-percent of his free throws.
The Greenbelt, Md. Native spent his freshman season at Miami Dade Community College, where he averaged 15.7 points and 5.6 rebounds while leading the Sharks to a 26-2 record and the Southern Conference Championship. He also shot 76.7-percent from the free throw line. His performance during the year earned him First Team All-Southern Conference honors.
Dodson played his high school basketball at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, where he is the all-time leading scorer with 1,262 points. He led Eleanor Roosevelt to two straight Maryland Class 4A state Final Four appearances. He averaged 29.1 points, 11 rebounds and 2.6 steals in his senior season. As a junior, he averaged 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
