HATTIESBURG, Miss. - University of Southern Mississippi Director of Athletics Richard Giannini announced Friday that the school has agreed to play a two-game, home-and-home football series with the University of South Alabama.
The Jaguars are expected to travel to Hattiesburg for a Sept. 5, 2020, contest, while the Golden Eagles will make a visit to Mobile the following campaign for a Sept. 4, 2021, matchup.
"South Alabama has been a great regional rivalry for our athletic program," Giannini said. "The city of Mobile has always been a tremendous recruiting area for us and this will give us another sport to showcase our university to the area. We have had some great contests in other sports and are looking forward to adding some football memories to the long-standing history between the two schools."
South Alabama is in its second season of playing as an unclassified football member, but will begin making the transition to the FBS level during the 2011 campaign. The Jaguars are expected to be a member of the Sun Belt Conference for the 2013 season.
