HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team put the finishing touches on its game plan for the Kansas game here Wednesday afternoon with an hour, 30-minute practice on the Golden Eagle campus.
The Golden Eagles and Jayhawks are set for a Friday, 7 p.m., contest that will be shown nationally on ESPN, as well as heard on the Southern Miss ISP Sports Network. Fans attending the game also will be treated to a postgame fireworks show.
Third-year coach Larry Fedora said that the team went through its game plan one more time as well as worked on special teams. He thought his squad had a good final workout installing what they were going to do in the game this week.
"The guys came out looking sharp and focused," said Fedora. "And we will be ready to go for Friday."
Heading into the game the talk still centers on the health of a trio of offense players, RB Tracy Lampley, WR Quentin Pierce and TE Johdrick Morris. Fedora after practice reiterated what he has said during the week.
"All three practiced today," said Fedora. "Right now, the plan is to play them all." Fedora's focus, though, still remains in seeing his team play for a full 60 minutes starting with Kansas on Friday.
"I just want us to play better than we did the other night," said Fedora of the Golden Eagles' 34-7 victory over Prairie View A&M. "We are trying to focus on playing a full 60 minutes, instead of 30, no matter who goes into the game at anytime we still have to play for 60 minutes."
Tickets still remain for this week's game online at SouthernMiss.com, via the telephone at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or by visiting the Pat Ferlise Athletic Ticket Office from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Thursday.
