SOUTHERN MISS ATHLETIC MEDIA RELATIONS Saturday, September 11, 2010 Post game Quotes- Prairie View A&M
Southern Miss Head Coach Larry Fedora
Opening Statement:
"That was a good win tonight. I told the team in the locker room that was a good win and I have never been around a bad win. We will take it and move on. We will not be able to dwell on tonight very long because we have to start early in the morning getting ready for the next game. I am proud of the way the guys came out with an attitude and played hard, especially from the beginning of the game. We probably slacked off in the second half but other than that I thought we played a good game."
On the play of receiver DeAndre Brown tonight:
"I do not know how he graded out or anything yet, but I thought he handled everything well tonight. He would have been the first one to tell you he did not play well last week, so I think he feels a little bit better about himself right now. There are a lot of guys in there who feel better about themselves and there are a lot of guys who do not feel very good right now because they did not play as well as they could play tonight."
On the play of the team in the second half:
"There is no doubt we lost our edge in the second half, you could see that. We started putting some other players in the game to get them some reps and we were all out of sync in a lot things. It is probably good that we got those guys some reps because we are going to need all those guys."
On the blocked punt:
"To be honest with you we thought we felt like we would get more than one going into the game. After watching them on film we put a scheme together and felt like we could get someone there and we did."
On freshman running back Kendrick Hardy:
"He is going to be a very good back for us. He has a lot to learn but he is still young. He is going to be fine. He ran hard tonight. He is going to see some things when he watches the film and he is going to be mad at himself. He is mad at himself right now because he knows he could have done better."
On the rotation of the running backs:
"VJ (Floyd) has not been 100% yet and I am not sure when that is going to happen. But we had planned on playing all those guys tonight to be honest. We did not have a set rotation but we wanted to make sure that they each got some time. I was not concerned with one guy getting more plays or anything like that. I just wanted those guys to all get some reps. It was the same thing with quarterback Matevious Young. We had planned on him playing in the game and it wasn't that we were going to put him in after the game is out of control. He was going to play no matter what tonight."
On the play of the defense tonight:
"I don't know if they feel good about themselves, they have to feel better. I am sure they feel better but it is hard as a whole unit. Right now they all think about how they played individually. We will get them all in there and we will put it all together. Some of the guys are feeling pretty good and some of them feel bad. Even though you win, you want to play well and there are guys in there who did not play as well as they could have so they are disappointed in their play. It's a win and we are going to take that win and move on to the next game."
On the play of Quarterback Austin Davis:
"I thought he made some good throws tonight and put the ball where he should have the majority of the time."
On the Kansas game today:
"I did not get a chance to watch any of their game but I heard they played really well and beat the No. 15 team in the country. That is a heck of a job after what they went through in the opening game, so Turner (Gill) has done a good job with those guys."
On the play of the kicking game:
"I am pleased with the play of the kicking game right now. Danny Hrappman is doing a nice job and he even got to punt tonight. We wanted to make sure he got some reps doing that because he is the backup punter and we can use him at any time. He hit the ball good on his field goals. The one was not a real solid hit but it went through and we will take them any way we can get them this year"
