Team Notes
*Today's Captains were linebacker Martez Smith, defensive lineman John Henderson, wide receiver William Spight and offensive lineman Alex Michael.
*Today's attendance was 27,316.
*The Golden Eagles has won 11 straight home openers, and improve to 76-13-2 all-time. *Southern Miss improves to 4-0 all-time against the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
*Head Coach Larry Fedora is now 4-1 all-time in non-conference home games.
*Southern Miss' 17 first quarter points were the most since scoring 28 in the first quarter against UAB in 2008.
Offensive Notes
*Senior center Cameron Zipp started his 28th consecutive game and 31st overall.
*Redshirt sophomore running back Desmond Johnson recorded his first career two touchdown game. He now has three career touchdowns.
*Sophomore wide receiver Mujahid Asaad recorded his first career reception in the first quarter.
*Junior wide receiver DeAndre Brown's caught a second quarter touchdown from Austin Davis. It was Brown's second of the season and 23rd of his career, snapping a tie for second place all-time at Southern Miss with Todd Pinkston (1996-99).
*It was also Davis' first touchdown of the season and 34th of his career.
*Brown caught five receptions for 100 yards. It was his seventh career 100-yard receiving game.
*Redshirt freshman running back Kendrick Hardy saw his first career action in the backfield, carrying the ball 17 times for 88 yards.
*Senior running back V.J. Floyd scored his first touchdown of the season and third of his career.
*Senior wide receiver Deon Hodges' 35-yard reception in the third quarter was the longest of his career.
Defensive Notes
*Southern Miss held Prairie View scoreless in the first half. It was the first time they held a team scoreless since Tulane last year.
*Junior Terrance Pope recorded his second sack of the year and third of his career in the first quarter.
*John Henderson and Cordarro Law combined for a sack in the third quarter.
*Junior defensive back Marquise Wheaton recorded his first interception of his career.
*Junior Cordarro Law recovered his first career fumble in the fourth quarter.
*Under Fedora, Southern Miss has now forced at least one turnover in 26 of 28 games and two or more 19 times.
Special Teams Notes
*Deron Wilson's punt block in the first quarter was the first punt blocked since Johdrick Morris against UTEP in 2008.
*Danny Hrappman connected on field goals of 28 and 25 yards.
