HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team went through its ninth practice of fall camp here Tuesday afternoon at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
The workout, which was conducted in shoulder pads and shorts, went over two-and-a-half hours and a cloud cover that hovered over the fields for the final half of the practice helped keep the temperature reasonable.
Third-year Golden Eagle coach Larry Fedora saw improvement from the previous day's practice and said that there were still some guys with some aches and pains but were getting better.
"Today was a good day, better day than yesterday," Fedora said. "We had great movement and everyone flew around, but we still have some guys back out there that were wearing blue (injured) jerseys. They are getting a little bit healed up and everything's been minor, knock-on-wood. We have some guys with some tweaks and pains, but those guys are slowly getting back into the mix."
Fedora also addressed the battle at a safety spot between junior Kendrick Presley and redshirt freshman Jerrion Johnson.
"Right now Kendrick is still in that No. 1 spot, but Jerrion is pushing him," Fedora said. "Jarrion has done a heck of a job as a redshirt freshman. I think he has a bright future."
The team will take an off day on Wednesday, before returning the practice fields with two practices on Thursday.
