Southern Miss used an error, three hits and a walk to add three more runs in the second. Dinelt got things started with a one-out single up the middle and moved to second when Hill drew her second walk. Dinelt came around to score off Mathis' second double of the game. Hill scored when Hurley reached on an error and Mathis scored when the ball got away from the shortstop, increasing the Eagles' lead to 7-0.
The Golden Eagles added another run in the bottom of the third as LeJune reached on an error but was erased on a fielder's choice by Dinelt. Hill reached base on the second error of the inning, moving Dinelt to second. Mathis hit into a fielder's choice that looked like an inning-ending double play, but throw was high and that allowed Hill to score and Mathis to get to second. Hurley then doubled to center but Mathis was gunned down at the plate to end the inning.
The Herd put a run on the board in the visitor half of the fifth. Taylor Thompson led off the inning with an infield single and stole second. After back-to-back strikeouts, Thompson crossed the plate on a single to left.
Marshall added one more run in the seventh when Thompson lead off with a triple and Jackson doubled to put her home for the 8-2 final.
Gabby Luciani (10-8) got the win, allowing two earned runs and fanning four while scattering six hits in seven innings. Mathis had a pair of hits, Hill scored three times and Hurley accounted for three RBIs in the game.
Murphree (15-14) took the loss, giving up four runs, all earned, on just three hits and striking out one in 0.2 innings. Jackson and Thompson paced the Herd with a 2-for-4 and a 2-for-3 performance, respectively.

In game two, seven different players recorded a hit and six scored runs as the Eagles rolled to a 6-1 win to sweep the series. As they did in the first game, the Eagles took an early lead again with five runs in the first. After LeJune grounded out to short to start the home half of the inning, Dinelt launched her fourth home run of the year over the left field fence. Mathis singled and Hurley hit a line drive into right and the right fielder made a diving attempt for the catch, but the ball got past and rolled all the way to the wall for a triple and then scored on an errand throw. James followed with a single and Chanell Thurman was hit by a pitch. Pinch runner Kirsten Perry and Thurman moved up a base on a wild pitch. Castellvi drew a walk to load the bases and Perry and Thurman came around to score on a Brandi Alonzo single. Murphree then entered the game to pitch for Jackson after lasting 0.2 innings.
Marshall got a run back in the top of the second when Jazmine Valle singled up the middle and pinch runner Jessica Hughes moved to second on a sac bunt and scored on Thompson's infield single to make the score 5-1.
Both pitchers seemed to settle down and over the next three and a half innings, limited base runners. Southern Miss starter Courtney Ramos gave up five hits, but was able to get out of two back-to-back innings with runners at third while Marshall's reliever did not allow a Golden Eagle hit until the sixth-inning when Castellvi doubled and came around to score on another double by LeJune for the Eagles' final run.
Ramos (7-9) picked up the win, allowing one earned run on seven hits and striking out two in seven innings.
Jackson (6-10) took the loss for the Herd after giving up five runs, all earned, on five hits.
Southern Miss steps out of non-conference play, traveling to Southeastern Louisiana for a single game on Wednesday, Apr. 28.
