Softball Team Hosts South Alabama In Mid-week Contest

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Golden Eagle softball team steps out of Conference USA play to host South Alabama in a mid-week contest beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Southern Miss comes into the game with a 16-20 record overall following a 3-0 win over Tulsa Sunday. Senior Megan Hill leads the team offensively with a batting average of .341 followed by Jill Mathis at .321. Hill also leads the team with 27 RBIs and eight home runs. Sophomore Leslie LeJune leads the team with 37 hits while Mathis is right behind at 36. The Golden Eagle pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.24 with a combined 215 strikeouts among the pitchers. Freshman Gabby Luciani owns a team-low 2.45 ERA in 120.0 innings with 125 strikeouts and a 7-7 record while sophomore Courtney Ramos owns a 6-9 record while working 86.0 innings and 60 strikeouts.
South Alabama is 18-16 overall following a 3-1 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday as well. Christin Crocker paces the Jaguar offense with a team-best .333 batting average with 32 hits followed by Brittany Fowler and Haley Hopkins at .324 and .307 batting clips, respectively. Fowler leads the team with 34 hits while Hopkins has eight home runs on the year. Beth Pilgrim owns a team-low ERA of 1.89 to go with a 13-7 record while working 133.0 innings for South Alabama.
Southern Miss and South Alabama have played seven times in this series dating back to 2007 including a single game at South Alabama earlier this season. The Jaguars lead the overall series 5-2 against Golden Eagles. South Alabama defeated Southern Miss back in February, 5-3.
Following the South Alabama game, Southern Miss travels to Memphis, April 17-18, in a three-game C-USA series. First pitch for the doubleheader is 1 p.m., Saturday and 1 p.m., in a single game Sunday.
