HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team went through its second practice of the spring in shorts and shoulder pads here Friday afternoon at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium.
Fedora said following the practice that the team will get into pads next week and that was when he expected to see some of the younger players start to emerge.
"We're in shorts right now so you can't put a lot of stock into their (performance)," Fedora said of the Eagles' younger players. "We have a lot of guys learning but I'm happy with some of the things those young guys are doing. It's just too early to tell and say anyone is separating themselves."
One player Fedora did talk about following practice is rising junior quarterback, Austin Davis, who is recovering for a foot injury that cost him the final eight games of last season and who will be very limited this spring.
"He's worked on the things he's been able to work on and is moving around pretty good," Fedora said. "He'll be fine when they turn him loose."
Overall, Fedora has been pleased with the progress the team still has 12 more practices slated and its spring game on April 10.
"The guys have come out with a great attitude and had a good offseason up to this point and they have worked extremely hard," Fedora said. "They want to do some things differently. You've got to get over that hump and get tired of being close. It's time to make that move."
Southern Miss returns to the practice field Monday afternoon on the Golden Eagle campus.
