C-USA Softball Players of the Week Announced

IRVING, Texas ¨CSouthern Miss swept the first 2010 Conference USA Softball Players of the Week honors after finishing 4-0 and winning the Sunshine State Classic. Jill Mathis claimed Conference USA Softball Hitter of the Week honor after hitting .455 (5-of-11), while boasting a .727 slugging percentage. The first C-USA Pitcher of the Week accolade for the 2010 season will be given to Courtney Ramos who finished the weekend 3-0, including a win over No. 19 Florida State.
This is the first time since 2003 that Southern Miss swept the weekly honors and the first time since 2004 that a Southern Miss pitcher earned the pitcher of the week honor.
HITTER OF THE WEEK
Jill Mathis, Southern Miss
SS, Jr., Marianna, Fla. (Gulf Coast CC)
Mathis hit .455 (5-of-11) for the weekend, including three doubles, four RBI and three base-on balls. Against No. 19 Florida State, the junior laced a double that drove in two runs and gave the Golden Eagles a 2-1 victory over the Seminoles. This marked Southern Miss' first win against a ranked opponent since 2006. Mathis tallied a .571 on-base percentage along with a .727 slugging percentage on the weekend, while hitting safely in each game. This marks Mathis first career Hitter of the Week honor.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Courtney Ramos, Southern Miss
P, So., Hilmar, Calif. (Hilmar)
Ramos finished the weekend with a 3-0 record, including a win over No. 19 Florida State. She pitched a four-hit complete game against FSU en route to her first career win over a ranked opponent. The Hilmar, Calif., native finished the weekend with a 1.11 ERA after only surrendering two runs, while striking out six in 12.2 innings pitched. Ramos concluded her weekend with a 9-1 win over Mercer in five innings. This is her first career Pitcher of the Week honor.
