New Orleans Superdome
Team Notes
· Team Captains were senior defensive lineman Jon Henderson, senior defensive back Chico Hunter, and junior wide receiver William Spight. Tulane won the toss and deferred to the second half
· With today's win head coach Larry Fedora is 2-1 all-time in the New Orleans Superdome. Both previous games in the dome came in the New Orleans Bowl (2009 and 2008).
· Redshirt freshman Kendrick Hardy made his first career start today at running back
· Southern Miss has now outscored their opponents 97-30 in the first quarter this season, they outscored Tulane 13-7 in the first quarter today
· Southern Miss has forced at least one turnover in each of the last six games
· With the win today Southern Miss is now bowl eligible for the 17th consecutive season
· Southern Miss has scored at least 40 points in each of the last five games
Offensive Notes
· Offensive lineman Kameron Zipp made his 35rd consecutive start today
· Hardy scored his fifth rushing TD of the season in the first quarter, a one yard run
· Southern Miss held the ball for 10:37 in the first quarter
· Tracy Lampley broke a 60 yard TD run in the third quarter, the longest play from scrimmage this season for the Golden Eagles.
· The 60 yard run for Lampley was also the longest run of his career
· Lampley's run capped a two-play, sixty yard drive which took only :40 seconds, the shortest scoring drive of the season for Southern Miss and the third TD drive under a minute this season
· With 18 completions today QB Austin Davis needs only 17 more completions to tie Jeff Kelly for fifth place all-time with 198
· Quentin Pierce threw the first TD pass of his career in the fourth quarter, a 26 yard pass to Johdrick Morris.
· For Morris it was his third TD reception of the season and fifth of his career
· Pierce becomes the fourth Golden Eagle player to throw a TD pass this season
· Southern Miss rushed over 40 times for the sixth consecutive game. They rushed 41 times today
Defensive Notes
· Kyrie Thornton and Roshaad Byrd registered a sack in the first quarter, Thornton now has 2.5 sacks on the season while Byrd has 4.5 sacks
· The defense held Tulane to only nine rushing yards in the first quarter
· Cordarro Law recorded a sack and forced fumble in the fourth quarter. The ball rolled out of the endzone leading to a safety.
· Law now has seven tackles for a loss and has four forced fumbles this season
· The Safety was the first in favor of the Eagles this season
· Alex Walters caused and recovered a fumble then returned it 41 yards for a TD in the fourth quarter, it was is his first career TD
Special Teams Notes
· Danny Hrapmann hit a pair of 34 yard field goals, one the opening drive and one in the third quarter to go along with a 49 yard field goal on the Eagles' second drive.
· Southern Miss executed an onside kick in the first quarter, the second time this season they have recovered an onside kick after also executing it against South Carolina in the season opener
· Reggie Hunt returned a kickoff 85 yards in the first quarter, the longest return of the season for the Golden Eagles and a career long for Hunt
· Hrapmann missed only his second field goal of the season in the second quarter, a 46 yard attempt
· With three field goals today it was the third time in his career he has hit three or more field goals in a game. He hit a career high five vs. East Carolina earlier this season
· Hrapmann is now 21 or 23 in field goals and a perfect 33-for-33 in PAT's this season
· Hrappman needs only two more field goals this season to tie the school record of 23 field goals in a season set by Darren McCaleb in 2005
· Punter Peter Boehme pinned Tulane inside the 20 with four of his seven punts today
