Cross Country Team Finishes Eight at 2010 Conference USA Championship

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - The University of Tulsa captured the 2010 Conference USA Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Monday, Nov. 1 at Indian Springs Country Club in Broken Arrow, Okla. The dual titles are just the third in league history [Marquette/2003, USF/1998].
Tulsa women won its first C-USA crown by scoring 27 points to second-place Rice who recorded 57 points, followed by UTEP in third-place with 97.
Sophomore Risper Kimaiyo of UTEP repeated her individual medalist honors by clocking a championship best winning-time of 16:27.
Southern Miss finished eight with 211 points behind UAB (4th/102), SMU (5th/132), East Carolina (6th/141) and Houston (7th/201).
Sophomore Stephanie Ledgerwood was the top finisher for the Golden Eagles, covering the course in a personal-best mark of 17:45 and finishing 23 overall followed by Zuna Portillo finishing 28 with a time of 17:55. Since 2001, the Golden Eagles have had only six runners place in the top 25 and only one in the top 10.
Rounding out the Southern Miss finishers was Krista Moylan (38) with a time of 18:12 followed by Jocelyn Lockhart (56) with a time of 18:52, Kara Moylan (66) with a time of 19:08 and Brittany Ware with a time of 20:58.
Southern Miss will compete in the 2010 South Region Championship, Nov. 13, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
