HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Golden Eagle football team worked our for just over two hours in helmets and shoulder pads at the Joe P. Park Practice facility on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi Tuesday afternoon.
"We are 11 days from kickoff, this is the point where you are as tired and banged up and you are going to be right here at the end of fall camp and I thought the guys pushed through that pretty good," head coach Larry Fedora said.
Fedora also said that the team as a whole is pretty banged up, but that's what he expects at the end of fall camp.
"We are banged up right now, but we are supposed to be. I have never come out of a camp where the guys are completely fresh and happy, they feel the way they should right now, beat up and tired.
"Everyone feels like they can not go any more, but it is our job to make sure they know they can push through it and go further."
Running back Damion Fletcher continued to progress as expected from a slight hamstring injury suffering in the first team scrimmage. He worked in more reps today and is beginning to feel more strength in his hamstring.
Fedora also commented that wide receiver DeAndre Brown is getting a little bit stronger each day. He played a total of 37 plays in the scrimmage held last Saturday. Brown is scheduled for another check up with the team physicians on Monday as he continues his recovery from a broken leg suffered in last year's New Orleans Bowl.
The Golden Eagles will begin to focus more on Alcorn State in the coming days as they return to the practice field the rest of this week with practices scheduled Wednesday through Friday and a mock scrimmage held on Saturday.
The scrimmage and all practices are closed to the public.
