Softball Hosts Northwestern State In A Mid-Week Doubleheader

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team hosts Northwestern State in a midweek doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m., Wednesday at the USM Softball Complex.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 1-1-1 weekend series against UTEP that saw the first tie game in Conference USA history.
Southern Miss is 21-22-2 overall and 9-8-1 in league play. Junior outfielder Megan Hill continues to the Eagle offensively with a .427 batting clip to go with 13 doubles, four triples, nine home runs and a team-best 39 runs batted in. Senior catcher Kristin Pilgrim is next with a .344 batting average with nine home runs and 34 RBI.
The Golden Eagle pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.25. Freshman Courtney Ramos has an 11-10 record and a team-low 2.45 ERA with 105 strikeouts in 134.1 innings of work. Senior Samantha Davis owns a 9-8 record with an ERA of 3.39 in 115.2 innings of work.
Northwestern State comes into the game with a 5-38 record overall and 3-23 in the Southland Conference. Stormi Stech leads the Lady Demons offensively, batting .232 with 29 hits including three doubles, two triples and one home run.
Kelee Grimes heads the pitching staff with a 3-23 record and a 5.09 ERA with 102 strikeouts in 162.2 innings pitched.
This marks the 23rd and 24th meeting between the two teams dating back to the 1990 season. Northwestern State leads the series, 13-9. The last time the two teams played, Southern Miss defeated the Lady Demons in a doubleheader, 5-0 and 8-0, in Hattiesburg last season.
Southern Miss remains at home for a three-game C-USA series against Houston, April 25 and April 26. The teams will play a double-dip Saturday beginning at 1 and 3 p.m., followed by a single game Sunday at noon.
