Softball Team Hosts Memphis In Weekend Series

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team returns home to host Memphis in a three-game series starting with a double-header on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively and a single tilt Sunday.
Southern Miss is 16-15-1 overall and 5-4 in C-USA play after a 3-0 win over Marshall to win the series. Junior Megan Hill hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning in leading the Golden Eagles past Marshall, 3-0.
Megan Hill paces Southern Miss on offense. The right fielder leads the squad in batting average with a .448 to go along with seven home runs, 13 doubles and 32 RBI. Senior Kristen Pilgrim is batting .347 with six home runs and 24 RBI.
Sophomore second baseman Courtney Hill has notched a .340 batting average with four doubles and four triples and 17 RBI.
Four Golden Eagles have posted a 3.43 earned run average as a staff with freshman Courtney Ramos (9-6) leading the way with a 2.54 ERA and a team-best 75 strikeouts in 91.0 innings worked. Senior Samantha Davis has a 3.41 ERA and a record of 6-6, having won her last three outings.
Memphis comes into the series with a 14-16 record and 1-5 in league play, following losing three games to Tulsa last weekend.
The Tigers have four players batting .300 or better led by Leigh Rowan with a .387 average, followed by Tori Gross and Leila Delfo with a .329 and 326 average, respectively.
The pitching staff has a team ERA of 4.06, led by Janelle Valle with a 3.32 ERA while working 71.2 innings. Kimber Bossom has a record of 5-4 and Vanessa Walle has a record of 4-5.
The series between the two teams are tied at 4-4. Southern Miss won two-of-three last season in Memphis.
Following this series, the Southern Miss remains at home, hosting nationally ranked LSU, Apr. 1 at 6 p.m.
