Softball Team Travels to Marshall For Weekend Series

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team travels to Huntington, W. Va., for a three-game series with Marshall starting with a double-header on Saturday and a single tilt Sunday.
Southern Miss is 14-14-1 overall and 3-3 in C-USA play after a 3-1 win over East Carolina to win the series. Freshman Ashley Razey hit her first career home run in the bottom of the sixth inning in leading the Golden Eagles past ECU on Sunday.
Megan Hill paces Southern Miss on offense. The right fielder leads the squad in batting average with a .449 to go along with five home runs, 13 doubles and 29 RBI. Senior Kristen Pilgrim is batting .337 with four home runs and 21 RBI. Sophomore second baseman Courtney Hill has notched a .329 batting average with four doubles and four triples and 15 RBI.
Four Golden Eagles have posted a 3.50 earned run average as a staff with freshman Courtney Ramos (9-5) leading the way with a 2.40 ERA and a team-best 74 strikeouts in 87.2 innings worked. Senior Samantha Davis has a 3.95 ERA and a record of 4-6.
Marshall comes into the series with a 14-7 record and 3-0 in league play, following sweep of UTEP last weekend.
The Thundering Herd has five players batting .300 or better led by Caitlyn Jackson with a .419 average, followed by J. J. Bitner and Melanie Stoehr with a .383 average each.
The pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.24, led by Katie Murphree with a 2.49 ERA and a 5-3 record. Autumn Mitchell has a record of 5-1 and an ERA of 3.64 with 52 strike outs.
Southern Miss and Marshall have played 10 times over the past four years. These games mark the 11th, 12th and 13th meeting between the two teams. Southern Miss leads the series 6-4. Marshall won the last two meetings between the two teams last season in Hattiesburg.
Following this series, the Southern Miss returns home to host Memphis in a three game series, Mar. 28-29.
