Softball Heads to LSU Wednesday for a Single Contest

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team travels to No. 20 LSU for a mid-week contest at Tiger Park. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
Southern Miss (6-9-1) is coming off a 2-0 loss to Louisiana Tech in the final game of the Mizuno Classic where the Golden Eagles finished with a 1-2-1 record. Tech scored two runs in the top of the first inning and held on for the victory. Southern Miss mustered only two hits in the contests, a single by Courtney and Megan Hill.
Megan Hill paces Southern Miss on offense. The right fielder leads the squad in batting average with a .476 to go along with three home runs, nine doubles and 16 RBI. Senior Kristin Pilgrim is batting .347 with three home runs and 13 RBI.
Sophomore second baseman Courtney Hill has notched a .340 batting average with three doubles and two triples and freshman shortstop Chanell Thurman is at .303 with two doubles and two runs driven in.
Four Golden Eagles have posted a 4.44 earned run average as a staff with freshman Courtney Ramos (5-3) leading the way with a 2.78 ERA and a team-best 44 strikeouts.
No. 20 LSU comes in with an 11-4 record, following an 11-0 five innings win over UAB in the Easton Purple & Gold Challenge.
Kirsten Shortridge leads LSU with a batting average of .385, while Ashley Applegate is next at .346. Shortridge leads the team in RBI with nine. Thirteen different Tigers have recorded a hit. The pitching quartet has a team ERA of 2.37, led by junior Cody Trahan with a 1.21 ERA and a 1-0 record. Freshman Brittany Mach has a 1.98 ERA and has fanned a team-high 51 batters in 35.1 innings.
Following this game, the Southern Miss hits the road for the Kennesaw State Tournament, Feb. 27-28.
