Lampley Named Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss freshman Tracy Lampley was awarded Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week for his solid performance against Marshall last weekend in the Golden Eagles' 27-20 road victory. The voting was done by selected media members from around the league.
Lampley established a school record for kickoff return yards in a game with 211 in the win. He registered his first career kickoff return for a 93-yard touchdown and ended the game with 225 all-purpose yards. Lampley is one of just three FBS players to return a kickoff and punt for a touchdown in 2009 and the only true freshman that has done that this season.
The Waynesboro, Miss., native is also the only Golden Eagle in history to score a touchdown by both a kickoff and punt return in the same season.
UAB senior QB Joe Webb has been named Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for a career-high 378 yards and three TDs in the Blazers win at Memphis. East Carolina sophomore CB Emanuel Davis earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after helping the Pirates stay in first place in the East Division with a win at Tulsa.
Lampley is the third Golden Eagle to win the C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week award. Freddie Parham won the award following the Virginia game and Peter Boehme captured the accolade following the Kansas contest.
The Golden Eagles return to action this week when they face Tulsa in the team's final home contest of the 2009 campaign.
