HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Director of Athletics Richard Giannini announced Monday that the Golden Eagles will play a home-and-home football series with former Conference USA rival Louisville beginning next season.
The Golden Eagles will travel to Papa John's Stadium in Louisville for an Oct. 10, 2009, game, while the Cardinals are set for a return trip to Hattiesburg, Sept. 29, 2012.
"We look forward to renewing this great rivalry," said Giannini. "The Southern Miss-Louisville games have always been fantastic contests and we expect these two games will be no different in the series beginning next season."
The Golden Eagles also have non-conference games scheduled next season at home with Alcorn State (9/12) and Virginia (9/19) and a road contest at Kansas (9/26).
The 2009 meeting between the two schools will be the 28th overall meeting with the Golden Eagles holding an overall 18-8-1 advantage.
Southern Miss, which also announced a three-game series with Nebraska earlier this year, including a home date in 2013 with the Cornhuskers, also has Kansas coming to Hattiesburg in 2010.
The school also has played host to Big 12 institution Oklahoma State, as well as Illinois of the Big 10 Conference, California of the Pacific 10 Conference and North Carolina State of the Atlantic Coast Conference since the 2000 campaign.
