HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team went through a two-plus hour practice Monday afternoon at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium in a steady rain for the most of the workout.
It was only the second time over the eight practice days that the Golden Eagles have had to endure rainy weather.
Still, first-year coach Larry Fedora has been pleased with the team's continued progress during practice as his squad returned to work for the first time since Saturday's first scrimmage of the fall. Still, Fedora said improvement is still needed in all areas of the game as the Golden Eagles ready themselves for their season opener in a 6 p.m., contest at home against Louisiana-Lafayette.
The guys have put forth a good effort and are doing what we ask them to do," Fedora said. "But we still have a long way to go on both sides of the ball."
Fedora also said that the team is going through a transition in its practice preparation.
"We have finished our installation period and are now in the phase where players have to recall what we have taught them," Fedora said.
The Golden Eagles return to action Tuesday with their second of three two-a-day practices. Southern Miss will go through a 2 hour, 15 minute morning practice and follow that with a two-hour workout in the afternoon.
Fans can still purchase their season tickets by going by the Pat Ferlise Athletic Ticket Office from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday or by calling 1-800-84-TICK. Fans can also purchase tickets online at SouthernMiss.com. Single game seats are also available for all six home games.
