HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The 2008 football campaign officially got underway in Hattiesburg this afternoon as the Golden Eagles went through their first practice of season
Head Coach Larry Fedora's Golden Eagles worked out for nearly two hours in shorts and helmets under considerably mild conditions, with overcast skies and temperatures in the upper 70's.
"I thought today was a great first practice," Fedora said. "The coaching staff was well-prepared, the guys worked very hard over the summer and people were flying around having fun today."
Today was the first of 28 practices before the Golden Eagles open newly renovated Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium on August 30 against Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Golden Eagles will return to the practice field tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. Southern Miss fans will get their first chance to see the Golden Eagles, tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 2, at the 13th annual Fanfare held at the Payne Center on the USM campus. Activities will begin at 5 p.m. with dinner, autographs and a silent auction. The program will begin at 7 p.m.
