HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss completed its third week of spring practice by going through a 1 hour, 50 minute scrimmage at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium.
First year head coach Larry Fedora said the scrimmage lasted "120-125"snaps. The Golden Eagles began each offensive series at different points of the field and ended the scrimmage practicing goal line situations. The team also worked on its punt and field goal portion of special teams.
"Offensively, the good thing is that we only had one turnover," said Fedora. "Defensively, we need to create more turnovers. But, there were some good things on both sides of the ball. I was pleased with the way the offense kept up its tempo, and defensively, we made some big stops throughout the scrimmage."
On offense, transfer Bubba Kirksey rushed for 116 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. He had five rushes of over ten yards, including a 19-yard touchdown.
Junior Damion Fletcher rushed 21 times for 55 yards and scored one touchdown during the goal line period. V.J. Floyd rushed five times for 27 yards.
