HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team returns home Wednesday (March 5) to face McNeese State in a 5 p.m. doubleheader at the Softball Complex.
The Lady Eagles (9-10) look to snap a seven-game losing skid when they meet the Cowgirls (9-16). It will be the final non-conference tune up for the squad before starting Conference USA action this weekend at home against Tulsa.
Senior Jennifer Fox leads the Lady Eagles offensively by notching a .346 batting average to go along with team-best tying marks of two home runs and 12 runs batted in.
Sophomore Megan Hill is the other Southern Miss player hitting over the .300 plateau with a .309 batting mark to go along with two home runs and 12 RBIs, while junior Kristin Pilgrim has tallied a home run and 11 RBIs with a .281 hitting average.
Defensively, the Lady Eagles have played stellar defense, committing just 16 errors over the first 19 games for a .972 fielding percentage. In the circle, five Southern Miss pitchers have combined to post a 2.57 earned run average.
Freshman Lana Vaughn has the best record at 3-2 with a 1.73 earned run average. Sophomore Samantha Davis is next with a 2-4 pitching record and a 1.89 ERA and a team-best 28 strikeouts.
McNeese State enters the twinbill with a 7-16 mark, having lost all three games in Southland Conference play last weekend at Texas-San Antonio.
The Tulsa series begins Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader, followed by a 1 p.m., single contest Sunday.
