HATTIESBURG, Miss - Southern Miss Director of Athletics Richard Giannini announced today a three-game football series with Nebraska that will take place in 2012, 2013 and 2015.
The contract calls for the Golden Eagles to travel to Nebraska for the 2012 and 2015 seasons and the Cornhuskers to travel to Hattiesburg in 2013. The scheduled dates of the game are Sept. 1, 2012, Sept. 7, 2013, and Sept. 5, 2015.
"We are excited to have another three-game series with Nebraska," said Giannini. "Our fans really enjoyed the last series and our trips to Nebraska. The 2003 Nebraska game in Hattiesburg had the highest gross ticket sales in our history and was also set single-game attendance record for us. This is a great national series for the Golden Eagles."
The two teams have played three times on the gridiron with NU holding a 2-1 advantage. The Golden Eagles lone win came on the road, Sept. 11, 2004, in a 21-17 decision over the Cornhuskers at Memorial Stadium.
Other than Nebraska, the Golden Eagles have played host to Big 12 institution Oklahoma State, as well as Illinois of the Big 10 Conference, California of the Pacific 10 Conference and North Carolina State of the Atlantic Coast Conference since the 2000 campaign. The Golden Eagles are also slated to play ACC member Virginia in 2009 and Big 12 school Kansas in 2010 at home.
