"It's Gameday at The Rock!" The game plan has been drawn up for the second weekend of April at The Rock in Hattiesburg with a full list of activities, for all ages, in association with the annual spring football game.
The headlining event is the Black and Gold Spring Game presented by Mississippi Farm Bureau and also sponsored by the M-Club and Power House Restaurant, which is set for a 6 p.m. kickoff on April 12th at Carlisle-Faulkner Field (a.k.a. The Rock). The Larry Fedora Era will officially begin when the Golden Eagles take to the field under the lights. The scrimmage will bring to a close the spring practice period and allow fans to catch a glimpse of the 2008 Golden Eagles, the new offensive and defensive schemes, and the construction progress taking place in the south end zone of the stadium. Admission to the game is $10 for adults, $5 for youth 18 and under, and free for Southern Miss students. Rock 104, the flagship station of the Southern Miss ISP Radio Network, will broadcast the Spring Game live.
Prior to the scrimmage on Saturday morning, fans are invited to join fellow Golden Eagles on Pride Field which will serve as a focal point for tailgating, comradery and other activities. The University Activities Council, The Legacy and many other supporting sponsors will get things started Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with a Battle of the Bands on Pride Field. In addition, other interactive games and activities will be set up for kids, as the Junior Eagle Funland will be located on Pride Field and available to families beginning at the same time. Coach Fedora and the Southern Miss Cheerleaders will hold a pep rally at noon to get the excitement started for the day. Activities will be suspended at 2 p.m. but will resume for a brief time following the baseball game at approximately 4:30 p.m. with the Sam Zeanah Band and The Legacy T-shirt Burning.
Golden Eagle faithful are also encouraged to purchase a special game day t-shirt commemorating the start of the Fedora era and the first night spring game in school history. The t-shirts are available at local retail outlets throughout the Pine Belt and at SouthernMiss.com. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase this unique souvenir at the stadium on gameday.
Before the Black & Gold game kicks-off under the lights at 6 p.m., start your day at Pete Taylor Park to watch Head Baseball Coach Corky Palmer and his Golden Eagles take the field against Arkansas State at 2 p.m. The Golden Eagles are also in action on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Tickets start as low as $9 for adults and $7 for youth.
