Southern Miss Takes to the Road to Face Tulane

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss begins a two-game road trip this Saturday night. The Golden Eagles look for their fifth win in the last six games when they face the Tulane Saturday night in a 6:00 p.m. (CT) contest at Fogleman Arena. Southern Miss is also looking for its first season sweep of the Green Wave since 2004.
Southern Miss and Tulane will face each other for the 46th time in a series that dates back to 1948. The Green Wave leads the series, 39-26, and has won four of the last six meetings. In New Orleans, Tulane leads 23-9, and have won six of the last eight meetings. Earlier this year, Southern Miss defeated the Green Wave, 71-54, in Hattiesburg.
The Golden Eagles are led by guard Jeremy Wise. The sophomore leads the team in scoring with 18.6 points per game. Right behind him is freshman R.L. Horton with 12.5, junior Courtney Beasley with 11.5 and sophomore Sai'Quon Stone at 8.4. Gjio Bain leads Southern Miss on the boards, pulling down 5.8 rebounds a game.
Earlier this year, Southern Miss defeated the Green Wave, 71-54, in Hattiesburg. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak. Tulane had won three straight games in the series. The Golden Eagles led 33-20 at the break after closing the half on a 29-8 run. Southern Miss controlled the second half much the same way they did the latter portion of the first half, and never relinquished their lead, leading by as many as 18 at the 10:48 mark in the second half. Southern Miss was led by Jeremy Wise, who tallied 23 points. Courtney Beasley added 19 points, tying his second highest total for the season.
Tulane enters today's game with a 15-10 record, 5-6 in conference play, and have lost its last four games. The Green Wave is led by forward David Gomez. The senior leads the team with 14.9 points and 6.0 rebounds. Sophomore guard Kevin Sims is averaging 12.1 points and a team-leading 4.1 assists. Junior forward Robinson Louisme is also averaging 12.1 points.
The Green Wave is coming off a 97-71 defeat against top-ranked Memphis. Gomez led Tulane with 23 points. Louisme had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Southern Miss closes out the two-game road trip next Wednesday, February 27, when the Golden Eagles face Houston at 7:00 p.m. (CT) at Hofheinz Pavilion.
