Softball Travels To Nicholls State For Midweek Game

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Coming off a 2-2 showing at the FSU Early Bird Tournament, the Southern Miss softball team will travel to Thibodaux, La. for a midweek game at Nicholls State. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m.
The Lady Eagles are coming off a weekend that saw them take a pair of victories from Troy, while dropping games against Florida State and Louisville.
Senior Jennifer Fox batted .556 (5-9) over the two-day tournament, hitting one home run, while knocking in three runs and crossing the plate three times. She also had a .889 slugging percentage and a .636 on-base percentage. Her performance earned the third baseman All-Tournament honors.
Senior Allison Bullard was 3-9 (.333) with a double, a triple an RBI and four runs scored. The outfielder also drew five walks.
Freshman pitcher Hannah Griffin enters the game with a 1-0 record and a 2.00 ERA. Griffin threw a complete game in the final game against Troy, striking out two in seven innings. Freshman Lana Vaughn is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA. Vaughn has struck out nine batters in 14 innings, while opponents are hitting just .260 against her.
Nicholls State comes into the game with a 0-2 record, dropping both games of a doubleheader at Houston. Senior Amy Thibodeaux leads the Colonels, hitting .333 (2-6) with two home runs, two runs and three RBI. Sophomore Audrey Wood also hit .333 (2-6) with a double.
Following this game, Southern Miss travels to Kennesaw, Ga. for the Kennesaw State Tournament on Feb. 15-16. The Lady Eagles will face Appalachian State and Eastern Kentucky on Friday before closing the tournament against the host Owls on Saturday. Southern Miss opens its home schedule, Feb. 20, with a doubleheader against Jackson State.
