HATTIESBURG, Miss. - This week's Golden Eagle Player of the Week is Golden Eagle football player Gerald McRath.
The 6-foot-2, 221 redshirt junior linebacker from Powder Springs, Ga., was also named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in the Golden Eagles' 28-12 victory over SMU on Saturday, Nov. 29th.
In the SMU game, McRath led the team with eight tackles (six solos), while tallying a half sack, 1.5 TFLs for 20 yards, a forced fumble and one pass breakup.
It was also the eighth time this season that McRath has either lead or tied for the lead in tackles for a tenacious Golden Eagle defensive unit.
McRath is C-USA's top tackler with 126 stops and is currently tied for ninth nationally. He has eight or more tackles in 10 games this season, averaging 10.50 per game.
McRath and the Golden Eagles secured bowl eligibility with the victory over SMU, going 6-6 during the regular season on the momentum of a four-game winning streak. They will return to action in the coming weeks at a post-season bowl game.
