Cross Country Team Finishes Third at the Green Wave Invitational

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- - Southern Miss cross country team opened the 2007 season at the Tulane Green Wave Invitational, finishing third overall out of six teams.
The Tulane Green Wave cross country team swept the women's field Friday evening at City Park as they placed the top five individual finishers, scoring a perfect 15 points in the opening race of the season.
Southern Miss' Parris Hodges was the top finisher, posting a ninth-place finish in the two-mile run with a time of 13:24.72. Kelley Rooney was 12 with a time of 13:33.09, followed by Gerrelaine Alcordo with a time of 14:09.18, Stephanie Jones-DuBose 14:22.06, Ronna Sandoval 14:37.42, LaSheika Dinkins 14:54.12 and Kenika Weaver 16:35.40.
The women's field also included Jackson State, who placed second, and Southern Miss, Southeastern La., Xavier (La.) and Loyola (La.), finished respectively.
Southern Miss returns to action on Sept. 7, when the Golden Eagles host the 27th Annual Cross Country Invitational at Tatum Park. The high school girls begin at 3:30 p.m., followed by the high school boys, collegiate women and men. There also will be an open 5K race.
