HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Despite rainy conditions, the Southern Miss football team began preparations, tonight, for the season opener against Tennessee-Martin on Sept. 1, with an evening practice at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at "The Rock." Game time for Saturday's match-up is set for 6p.m.
The workout featured the Golden Eagles in shoulder pads and shorts, utilizing two hours and 15 minutes followed by some routine conditioning.
"It was a good practice," Head Coach Jeff Bower said. "We just need to eliminate the mental errors. They came out and worked hard. They had their legs and looked a lot fresher, so the break helped."
Bower mentioned that redshirt sophomore offensive linemen Ryan Hebert (Gray, La.) and Micah Brown (Troy, Ala.) were gradually improving as they take reps on the field, after missing camp with preexisting injuries.
"Not bad," Bower said of Hebert's effort. "Micah did alright. I don't know if they'll be ready. I'll have to wait and talk to Mitch (Rodrigue) and see how they do."
The Golden Eagles continue preparations tomorrow with an afternoon practice at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
