HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team continued preparations for its season opener against Tennessee-Martin at the Joe P. Practice Facility, today, with a two-hour workout in full pads.
"Practice was decent today," Head Coach Jeff Bower said. "We're starting to get our game plan in, but it will be all about them (UT-Martin) when we get back here on Monday."
Bower mentioned the improvement of redshirt freshman quarterback Martevious Young (Alexander City, Ala.) and his ability to take more snaps in practice.
"He's doing better," Bower said of the Young. "It's all starting to click. I'm not going to say he's there yet, but it's coming. He's got the biggest arm on the team."
Bower also mentioned the injury status of redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Ryan Hebert (Gray, La.), who has been limited in recent workouts, wearing a green jersey.
He's doing well," Bower said of Hebert's progress. "I don't know how long he'll be out. He's going to go through some soreness and pain to get back to where he needs to be, and conditioning is a factor. Whether he'll be ready or not is on him."
The Golden Eagles hit the field one last time before Monday, as they are scheduled for a 5:45 a.m. workout on Friday.
Southern Miss opens the season on September 1, hosting Tennessee-Martin in a 6 p.m. contest at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at "The Rock."
