HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The 2007 Southern Miss football preseason began today, as 103 total players reported to campus to begin preseason work.
The only two players missing were freshman running back Antwain Easterling (5-11, 185, Miami, Fla.), whose flight was delayed, and redshirt junior defensive back Ivory Bradshaw (6-1, 185, Bastrop, La.).
"It's good to see the whole group together, with the incoming freshmen," Head Coach Jeff Bower said. "We've got some new faces for the first time today, and it's nice to have everybody together again."
Starting tomorrow, there will be separate sessions for the newcomers and returning players for the first couple of days of practice.
The Golden Eagle newcomers hit the field for the first time at 2 p.m., on Friday, before the returning players begin practice at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, practice begins at 8 a.m., for the newcomers, with a full-team special teams period following, before the returners practice at 9:10. There will be no practice on Sunday, before the first full-team practice begins at 8:30 a.m., on Monday.
The first two-a-day practice is set for Thursday, August 9, with times set at 7:35 a.m. and 3:55 p.m.
Southern Miss opens its season on Sept. 1, with a 6 p.m., home contest against Tennessee-Martin.
The 12th Annual Eagle Fan Fare will be held on Saturday, August 11, at 6 p.m. in the Southern Miss Payne Center on campus.
