Softball Travels to Louisiana-Monroe for Midweek Match-up

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team travels to Monroe, La., to face Louisiana-Monroe in a midweek match-up on Wednesday, April 4, beginning at 5 p.m.
The contest marks the 24th meeting between the two teams, since first meeting in 1983. Louisiana-Monroe has a 21-12 series advantage over Southern Miss, and defeated the Lady Eagles, 7-1, earlier in the season.
Southern Miss (11-25, 2-6 C-USA) enters the game after splitting a weekend series with C-USA rival Memphis. The Lady Tigers took the first meeting, 6-1, the Lady Eagles won the second, 6-3, and the series-deciding contest on Sunday was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Louisiana-Monroe (18-24, 1-8 Sun Belt) is coming off of back-to-back losses to Middle Tennessee on April 1.
Southern Miss is hitting .228 with 39 doubles, six triples and 26 home runs. The pitching staff has a 4.72 ERA in 227.0 inning pitched, struck out 82 batters, walked 152 and are holding opponents to a .306 batting average.
Louisiana-Monroe has recorded a .277 batting average with 47 doubles, nine triples and 27 home runs. The pitching staff has a 3.19 ERA in 283.0 innings pitched, struck out 229 batters, walked 106 and are holding opponents to a .271 batting average.
Freshman designated hitter Megan Hill leads the Southern Miss offense, hitting .356 with nine doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 28 RBIs, 14 walks and four stolen bases. Following Hill is freshman outfielder Brandi Alonzo. Alonzo is currently hitting .337 with four doubles, one triple, two home runs, 15 RBIs, five walks and eight stolen bases.
Heather Hanson is leading the offense for Louisiana-Monroe, hitting .350 with two doubles, four triples, one home run, nine RBIs, seven walks and two stolen bases. Hanson is followed in the standings by Jamie Liles. Liles has a .333 batting average, including 10 doubles, three home runs, 28 RBIs, four walks and six stolen bases.
On the mound, the Lady Eagles are led by sophomore Samantha Davis. Davis is 1-7 with a 2.60 ERA in 62.0 innings, giving up 33 runs, 23 earned, on 74 hits, striking out 25, walking 28 and holding opponents to a .290 batting average.
Lindsay Rittenhouse leads Louisiana-Monroe, defensively. She has recorded an 11-12 record with a 2.53 ERA in 149.1 innings, giving up 84 runs, 54 earned, on 149 hits, striking out 155, walking 47 and holding opponents to a .247 batting average.
Following Wednesday's competition, Southern Miss travels to Huntington, W.Va., to face Marshall in a three-game Conference USA series, beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, April 6, at 1 p.m. The final game will be on Saturday, April 7, at 1 p.m.
