HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team went through its 13th practice of the spring Thursday afternoon in a two-hour session at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
The Golden Eagles opened the practice with 20 minutes of special teams work, before breaking up into individual position work. Southern Miss then went into its team drills, with a two-minute offense drill finishing the practice.
For Southern Miss coach Jeff Bower, it was another day to get ready for this weekend's Spring Game, which will culminate the Golden Eagles' 15 practice days allowed by the NCAA.
"Practice went fine today," said Bower. "Tomorrow, we will come out in shorts as it will be a light day. We still have to have one more day in helmets before Saturday."
Also prior to Friday's practice, Bower said that the team will meet with this weekend's honorary coaches, H. D. 'Doc' Roberts and Nick Welch.
Senior Vontre Mason will not play in the Spring Game due to an ankle injury sustained last Friday in the team's last scrimmage. Sean Merrill, who was also injured in that scrimmage and suffered a broken fibula, will also miss Saturday's tilt.
Saturday's game is slated for 1 p.m., at M.M. Roberts Stadium. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults and $3 for youth.
