HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss guard Jeremy Wise earned more recognition for his play this season by being named one of 16 players selected Freshman All-America, recently, by collegeinsider.com.
Rather then assembling first, second, third and fourth team squads, the collegeinsider.com Freshmen All-America team was one team consisting of 16 players. Division I coaches and NBA scouts were part of the selection process, but final decision rested with the collegeinsider.com staff.
Wise, the Jackson, Miss., native set the Southern Miss record as the top freshman scorer in school history with 541 points. He also became the first Southern Miss player to reach 500 points in a season since 1998-99. Wise ranked fourth in Conference USA for scoring, averaging 17.5 ppg, and free throw percentage (.834).
At 6-foot-2, Wise was the only Golden Eagle to start in every game this season and scored in double figures in 29 of 31 games, including 22-straight to end the season. He also had 10 games of 20 or more points, including a season-best 28 at Memphis on Jan. 27. Following that performance, he was named C-USA Player of the Week, becoming the first freshman in four years to earn the honor.
He finished the season by being named to the C-USA Second Team, as well as C-USA Freshman of the Year, C-USA Newcomer of the Year and the High-Major Freshman of the Year by Collegehoops.net.
