HATTIESBURG, Miss. - While most other collegiate football teams were playing games today, the Southern Miss football team continued its preparations for Tuesday's game at UCF with an hour and a half practice, beating the rain as a downpour started as the team exited the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
Head Coach Jeff Bower said he thinks UCF will be a different football team than what the Golden Eagles saw last year.
"I'm sure they were disappointed on how they played in last year's game," Bower said. "A lot of teams feed off that and use it as motivation. All I know is that they ended up in the championship game and we didn't."
Bower said that junior defensive end Sean Merrill (ankle) practiced some today, but was still limited.
"We'll check him out tomorrow," Bower said.
Bower also said that sophomore linebacker Mitch Craft tweaked his hamstring and was limited in practice today, but he will be fine.
Southern Miss (2-1) and UCF (1-2) will meet in a 6:30 p.m., contest on Tuesday, that will be nationally televised on ESPN2.
