HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Golden Eagle football team completed preparations for its season opening game at No. 7/8 Florida today.
"We had a good day today," Head Coach Jeff Bower said. "We were pretty sharp today. We really were."
The team will fly to Gainesville on Friday afternoon. With no more practice preparation, Bower said the focus now turns to finalizing the mental preparation.
"The most important time is right now," Bower said. "The physical part is over. Now there's a lot of mental work, studying tape, studying game plans, scouting reports and tendencies. You've got to be repetitious with it."
Saturday's game will be the fifth meeting between Florida and Southern Miss, with Florida holding a 4-0 series advantage. It will be the first meeting since the 1997 season, a 21-6 Florida victory. The two teams first met back in 1973, with Florida winning a 14-13 contest in Tampa, Fla. The other two meetings came in the 1992 and 1994 seasons, with Florida winning 24-20 and 55-17 respectively.
