HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Despite a 25-minute weather delay due to lightning, the Golden Eagle football team finished preseason practice today, beginning with a 45-minute session on the Joe P. Park Practice Facility, before taking to M.M. Roberts Stadium following the postponement.
Despite the weather, Head Coach Jeff Bower said this practice was an important one, and he liked what he saw.
"We had to get the practice in," Head Coach Jeff Bower said. "You don't want to lose any practice time. The players had an academic meeting tonight, so we couldn't do a long delay. I thought we had a good day throwing and catching the ball. We made some good plays. The player's legs are coming back a little bit."
Today, the team began some small preparation for the season opening game at Florida, but Bower said that will increase starting tomorrow.
"We really haven't started much Florida," Bower said. "We'll work heavier on them tomorrow."
Bower said following practice that senior offensive lineman Robby D'Angelo and junior offensive lineman Chris Clark returned full speed to practice today, but that senior defensive back Jasper Faulk (hamstring) missed his second consecutive practice.
The team will start school tomorrow, along with its regular-season practice routine in the afternoon.
Season tickets are still now on sale. Additional information on tickets or Eagle Club membership is available by contacting the Southern Miss Ticket Office at 1-800-844-TICK, 601-266-5418, or online at www.SouthernMiss.com.
Southern Miss opens the season on Sept. 2, with a 5 p.m., contest at Florida.
