Basketball Announces Billy Reid As Director of Operations

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Head Basketball Coach Larry Eustachy has announced the employment of Billy Reid, a former collegiate coach at NCAA Division I schools and professional player and coach, as the Director of Basketball Operations.
"I'm excited that Billy has decided to become a member of the Golden Eagle basketball family and our coaching staff as our director of operations," Eustachy said. "He brings a wealth of experience, having coached at Division I schools and professional clubs in France and played in the NBA and internationally for several years. His experience will be a big asset to our program."
Reid comes to Southern Miss after serving as the Head Basketball Coach and Director of Athletics at Laurinburg (Prep) Institute in Laurinburg, N.C. He led his team to a 24-1 record and a No. 5 ranking in the National Prep Polls.
Reid spent the 2004-05 season as an assistant coach at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, N.Y., the three years prior to that (2001-04) at the University of San Francisco in San Francisco, Calif., and as the top assistant during the 2000-01 season at Rhode Island as an assistant coach. In all three positions, he was responsible for recruiting, scouting and player development, as well as monitoring player's academic progress.
From 1992-00, he coached internationally in France, serving as a player/coach from 1992-96 with Mont-De-Marian (1992-95) and Avignon Basketball Club (1995-96) and then was the head coach for the next three years with the same club, recording a 101-72 record. His teams finished in the Top-10 every year, placing fourth overall in 1996.
Reid played professionally for 12 years both in the United States and internationally, including stints with the Golden State Warriors of the NBA, the CBA and internationally in Japan and Taiwan (1981-83), Venezuela (1982-83), Spain, Italy and France (1983-92). He also played in the 1990 and 1992 European Cup Games.
He has coached numerous youth camps and clinics at such places as Clemson University, New York City (YMCA and other youth clinics) and in France. He also served as the camp director and member of the board of selection for the Moroccan National Team in 1999.
Reid earned his bachelor's degree in sociology from San Francisco in 1990 and received both a basketball coaching degree from the Federation Francoise de Basketball (1997) and a degree in physical education (1998) while in France.
