Almond Signs With Cleveland Browns

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Former Southern Miss quarterback Dustin Almond signed with the Cleveland Browns today as a rookie free agent, joining Tom Johnson as the second Golden Eagle to join an NFL team this season. Almond will participate in the Brown's minicamp, May 5-7.
Last season, Almond completed 216 of 394 passes for 2,860 yards and 23 touchdowns while also collecting two rushing touchdowns. He finished his career at Southern Miss passing for 7,342 yards and 51 touchdowns while adding 13 rushing touchdowns.
Almond set numerous school records, including the single season record for passing completions at 216, breaking the previous high of 214 set by Jeff Kelly in 2001. He also set the school single season record in passing attempts, finishing with 392, breaking the previous high of 381 by Brett Favre in 1981.
He set the school single-season record of total offense at 2,762 yards, breaking the previous high of 2,645 set by Jeff Kelly in 2001.
His 23 passing touchdowns in the 2005 season were the second most in school history during a single season, behind Lee Roberts' 24 in 1998. He finished with 51 passing touchdowns in his career, tying him for second most in school history with Jeff Kelly (1998-01).
He finished with 7,342 passing yards, the second most in school history, behind Brett Favre's total of 7,695 in 1987-90.
He also had 7,601 yards of total offense, six yards shy of setting the school record, behind Brett Favre's total of 7,606 in his career from 1987-90.
