HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Head Basketball Coach Larry Eustachy has announced the signing of Jeremy Wise of Redemption Christian Academy in Troy, N.Y., to a national letter of intent and grant-in-aid for the 2006-07 academic year. This marks the sixth signee of the spring period and ninth overall for the 2006-07 campaign.
"We're excited to sign a player of Jeremy's caliber," Eustachy said. "He is a real versatile player, who also is a scoring threat. He is an extremely athletic point guard who fits well with our style of play."
Wise, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound guard from Jackson, Miss., was a standout player for Coach John Massey, Jr., at Redemption Christian Academy this past season, averaging more than 30 points and five assists a game.
Prior to RCA, Wise was an all-state performer at Jackson's Murrah High School under head coach Bob Frith. As a senior at Murrah, Wise averaged 26.2 points, five rebounds, 3.3 assists and three steals per game while leading the Mustangs to a 31-7 overall record and the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 5A State Title. As a junior, he led the team to a 26-8 record and a berth in the state semifinals, averaging 22.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.4 steals per game.
Following his senior season, Wise was named to the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) All-State Class 5A First Team and was named the Player of the Year in Class 5A by the MAC. A First-Team All-State selection by The Clarion Ledger, he also was one of the more sought after recruits in the state of Mississippi and was named to the Ledger's Dandy Dozen team prior to his senior season. He also selected to the paper's honorable mention all state team as a junior.
Wise joins an outstanding group of Southern Miss' 2005-06 signing class.
