Softball Rallies To 2-1 Victory Over UCF

UCF-Southern Miss Game Three Box Score
The Southern Miss softball team scored two runs in the sixth inning, as it rallied from a 1-0 deficit to finish the sweep of UCF, 2-1.
With the victory, Southern Miss improves to 21-23, 7-2 in Conference USA. UCF falls to 13-26, 0-12.
The win for Southern Miss marked its first Sunday victory in Conference USA action this season, and was the first league sweep for the Lady Eagles since sweeping Saint Louis last year on March 19-20.
UCF got its lone run in the first, as Ashley Baker walked with the bases loaded, scoring Cici Alvarez, who walked with one out.
Southern Miss threatened in the bottom of the first, as Charity Butler singled to left to open the frame, but was out at second as Ashley Brenan reached on a fielder's choice Brenan then sole second and went to third on a single by Jessica Huerta and was thrown out at home, as Jennifer Fox reached on a fielder's choice, which ended the threat.
UCF loaded the bases in the third with one out, but failed to get any runs across.
The Golden Knights stranded two more runners in the fifth, as Kacie Feaster reached on a fielder's choice for the first out, stole second, went to third on a groundout by Barbara Walters, before being left stranded.
Southern Miss got its only runs of the game in the sixth, as Butler singled to center to start the inning, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brenan. After Huerta was intentionally walked, Fox singled to left, scoring Butler. On the play, Huerta was caught in a run down, but made it safely back to second, but Fox was attempting to advance on the play, and was out at second. Then with two outs, Ashley Davis singled past UCF third baseman Alvarez, plating Huerta from second, for the game-winning run.
UCF would leave 11 runners stranded in the game, compared to five for Southern Miss.
Lacey Gros (11-10) got the win for Southern Miss, allowing only three hits and one run, walking eight and striking out three.
Allison Kime (9-11) took the loss for UCF, allowing five hits, two runs, walking three and striking out seven.
Butler finished with two hits to lead Southern Miss, while Fox and Davis each had RBIs.
Southern Miss returns to action on Tuesday, April 5, facing No. 11 Louisiana-Lafayette in a 6 p.m., contest at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
