Southern Miss Recognizes Student-Athletes For Excellence In Classroom

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Southern Mississippi has recognized a total of 118 student-athletes for outstanding academic effort during the recently completed fall semester. Golden Eagle athletes from each varsity sport earned either President's List, Dean's List or Athletic Director's Honor Roll during the fall semester.
Nine student-athletes were named to the President's List, which recognizes students who achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average on at least 12 hours of course work for a semester. There also were 35 student-athletes named to the Dean's List, which recognizes students for a 3.25 or better on a minimum of 12 hours of course work. 74 others were named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, which recognizes student-athletes who achieve at least a 3.0 grade point average for the semester.
"Our student-athletes continue to do an outstanding job on the playing field and in the classroom," Director of Athletics Richard Giannini said. "We also must give credit to our Student Academic Enhancement Program personnel for the outstanding job they continue to do in helping our athletes realize their full potential in the classroom."
Broken down by sport, the Golden Eagle football team had a varsity sport high 23 student-athletes on the list. The baseball team finished second with 18 student-athletes on the list. Those sports were followed by women's track (14), soccer (12) and softball (10). Volleyball had eight, while women's basketball and men's track each had seven. Men's and women's tennis and men's golf each had five. Women's golf and men's basketball each had two student-athletes on the list.
Those receiving President's List honors (4.0 GPA) included baseball's Patrick Ezell, women's basketball's Hallie Prest and Kendra Reed, football's Luke Johnson, soccer's Katie Warmington, softball's Nicole Fontenot, men's tennis' Domagoj Anic, women's track's Hana Prudilova and volleyball's Ashley Petrinec.
The dean's list honorees (3.25 GPA) included baseball's Eddie Burger, Marc Maddox, Justin Russell, Trey Sutton and James Winstead, women's basketball's Kristin Chaney and Kelsey Gurganus, football's Stephen Daigle, Jonathan Palmer, Chris Rhoden and Cody Tawater, men's golf's Paul Apyan, women's golf's Helena Backlund, soccer's Carly Barkley, Chelsey Brown, Christina Duvall, Erin Hamrick and Megan Kolts, softball's Ashley Brenan and Melissa Prouty, men's tennis' Dylan Mezey, women's tennis' Mary Kammerer, Courtney Ulrich and Dana Wittmann, men's track's Ahmed Abdelzaher and Zaphetreaun Watson, women's track's Cheris Fletcher, Tanika Liburd, Kenika Weaver, Brittany Wood and Jocelyn Wood, volleyball's Cassandra Conley, Kaitlyn Deutsch, Leslie Robertson and Nicole Rock.
