HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Sophomore left fielder Jennifer Fox was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week today. Fox earns the honor for the first time in her career and is the first Lady Eagle to earn the honor in 2006.
Fox becomes the first Lady Eagle to earn the honor, since Ashley Davis was selected following the UAB series on May 2, 2005. With her selection, Southern Miss has now had 32 Conference USA Players of the Week (17 hitters, 15 pitchers).
Fox, a native of Jackson, Miss., hit safely in all five contests for the Golden Eagles last week, going 9-for-14 at the plate (.643). At the Jacksonville/Best Western Invitational, the sophomore went 2-for-3 in each of the four contests, including a home run against IPFW. Fox doubled and drew a walk against No. 7 Alabama and also doubled in a win over Armstrong Atlantic.
She leads Southern Miss with a .383 batting average and 18hits and is tied for the team lead with eight RBI.
Southern Miss returns to action on Tuesday, hosting McNeese State a doubleheader scheduled for 4 and 6 p.m.
