Basketball Falls To Nationally Ranked Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Southern Miss men's basketball team dropped their second game in a row with a 80-41 loss to nationally ranked Memphis, Tuesday, at the FedExForum here in Memphis, Tenn.
With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 8-17 overall and 2-8 in league play, while the Tigers, who are ranked No. 3 in both the Associated Press and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll, improved to 23-2 overall and 9-0 league play.
Southern Miss struggled from the field in the opening half, managing just four field goals to shoot 15.4 percent in the period. At the break, Memphis held the 34-10 advantage.
Things improved in the second half, with Southern Miss scoring 31 points on 39 percent shooting from the field.
Courtney Beasley led Southern Miss with 15 points -- all of them in the second half -- while David Cornwell added 10 points. Craig Craft led the team with six rebounds.
Five Tigers scored in double figures, paced by Rodney Carney's 15 points. Kareem Cooper added 13, while Shawne Williams and Darius Washington both scored 11. Robert Dozier added 10.
Southern Miss now returns home to host another "mirror" opponent, taking on UAB in a national CSTV game. Tip-off for the game is set for 2 p.m.
