HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Golden Eagle football team completed preparations for Saturday's Homecoming game against Houston, today, with an hour and a half practice in M.M. Roberts Stadium.
Head Coach Jeff Bower said the team had a good week of practice.
"I think we had a pretty good week overall," Bower said. "This is a very important game for both football teams, and I hope we can make it a good Homecoming weekend for everyone."
Bower stated that tight end Shawn Nelson's hand is better and that he has a chance to play in the second half of the game.
"Everything looked good with the x-ray," added Bower. "We worked him today, and he caught the ball."
Bower also said that running back Conrad Chanove was performing better; however, tight end Derek Chapman isn't moving around well.
"He's not able to do much," Bower said about Chapman.
Bower also said that Jeremy Young is moving around a lot better than last week and will be ready for this weekend's game. He also said that Stephen Reaves moved around a lot better and even surprised him with his progress.
With all of the off-the-field distractions that went on during the week, Bower said that the team has still done a good job of keeping its focus heading into Saturday's game.
"You just go about your business," Bower said. "That's part of being a team. When things like that happen, everybody else has got to step up and pick it up. We have some guys that will be filling in, and they have to play hard and play well."
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., in M.M. Roberts Stadium. For ticket information, call the Southern Miss Ticket Office at 1-800-844-Tick or go on-line to SouthernMiss.com.
